Beyond the Cup & Bowl: Writing to Explore the Human Vessel

“We are each born of such humble materials,” writes poet James Crews, “from the mud, as it were, and are then sent into the fires of life with little protection.” And so it is that to be human is to be a vessel—something that attempts to hold a life, something that can be broken. In this writing workshop, we’ll use the play of metaphor to explore what it is to be alive, to hold things together, to shatter, and to find repair. All levels of poetry experience welcome. Only prerequisite: your willingness to feel, listen, play, pick up a pen and see what happens next.

Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer co-hosts the Emerging Form podcast on creative process, the Soul Writers Circle, and Secret Agents of Change (a kindness cabal). Her poems have been featured on A Prairie Home Companion, American Life in Poetry, PBS Newshour and Oprah Magazine. Her most recent book, Hush, won the Halcyon Prize, and Naked for Tea was a finalist for the The Able Muse Book Award. One-word mantra: Adjust.
