Bouncing back is a concept well understood in the context of recovering from a sports injury. But what about everyday life and the myriad of setbacks and challenges we face?

Researchers suggest resilience should be regarded as an emotional muscle, one that can be strengthened and cultivated through consistent practice, which allows us to better cope with stress, trauma, chronic pain, adversity and tragedy.
The American Psychological Association (APA) says that resilience isn’t a trait that people either have or don’t. Instead, resilience “involves behaviors, thoughts and actions that can be learned and developed in anyone.”  That means we must learn what works best for us, and create a consistent practice to call upon.

In this online offering, you will learn and explore the tenets of cultivating Resilience and pull from your own experiences and stories to practice "reframing".  We'll reach into our Mindful Practices toolkit to root our journey in an embodied approach through breath work, visualization and gentle movement, lecture followed by journaling and creative writing, group discussion, and guided meditation.

"I am not what happened to me. I am what I choose to become". - Carl Jung

About the Instructor, Gretchen Williams:

Discovering and developing my Yoga practice helped me create a more nourishing relationship with my body after years of athletic competition, which lead to various injuries and a poor relationship with food.  Through Yogic philosophy, I’ve learned how to create both better relationships with myself, but also within my community.

After 10 years of daily practice, I began teaching Yoga in 2014, first for several years in New York City, before teaching in a beach town on the Pacific Coast of Mexico where I became certified in Therapeutic Thai Massage. Thanks to my partner, a longtime local, I made Telluride my home in the Fall of 2020.  I teach group classes at our local studio, Practice, as well as a few private teenage clients both in person and online.

Helping students feel better in their bodies is my goal, and I work to blend both traditional yoga foundations with modern, science-based movement principles to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcomed, seen, and safe regardless of age, size or background.  My personal and professional mantra is “we’re here to help one another through this life”.
