Event Details

February's session will be the Close Calls Forum, hearing real, raw stories from regular local folks who have experienced brushes with avalanche hazards. This annual Backcountry Chat focuses on learning from local accidents and close calls. Come hear three powerful first-hand accounts of local avalanche accidents and the lessons we can learn from them. Two of the accounts happened earlier this season. Afterwards, Starr Jamieson of SOAR (Survivors of Outdoor Adventures and Recovery) will chat briefly on working through grief from backcountry trauma.

Want to learn more about snowpack, snow science, safety in the backcountry, and more? Whether you're a seasoned backcountry skier or totally new, a resort or backcountry skier, hiker, ice climber, cross-country skier, or none of the above, new to the region or a longtime local, these chat will have pertinent info for you!

Telluride Backcountry Chats are brought to you by the Peter Inglis Avalanche Education Fund, the Telluride Mountain Club, Mountain Trip, Telluride Mountain Guides, San Juan Outdoor Adventures, and Telluride Helitrax.
