Event Details

Join us on the first Tuesday of every month for an online gathering of words, wit, and wisdom! The brainchild of the Talking Gourds Poetry Club, each Bardic Trails poetry night features an award-winning guest poet sharing their new and exciting work. The featured poet for April, National Poetry Month, is award-winning poet Jill Burkey.

Jill Burkey’s work won the Mark Fischer Poetry Prize, and her poems, which have been called “warm, complex, and intensely satisfying,” have appeared in Deep Wild Journal, Front Range Review, Paddlefish, Pilgrimage, Plainsongs, Sixfold, Soundings Review, and others. Jill grew up on a three-generation cattle ranch in western Nebraska and began her education in a one-room schoolhouse. She later attended Nebraska Wesleyan University where she earned a BA in English and business with endorsements in secondary education. As a writer-in-residence for Colorado Humanities’ Writers-in-the-Schools program, Jill taught poetry and writing to hundreds of elementary and high school students on the Western Slope of Colorado where she lives with her family. Her first chapbook of poetry, The Two Hearts Inside Us by Lithic Press is available at, Lithic Bookstore in Fruita, CO, and Out West Books in Grand Junction, CO. You can connect with her on her website or on Instagram @jillburkeywrites.

We'll follow Jill's Q & A about her work and inspirations, with time afterwards for poetry sharing from attendees- a Gourd Circle of sharing whatever poetry you wish or just listening in. For those who desire,  April's poetic prompt is Rebirth.
